Take Down the Bird Feeder

I don't normally do this, but a good friend of mine and a devoted reader of The Times Observer forwarded me this in an e-mail and I thought it would make a nice little addition here. It's funny and it makes a lot of sense for the most part. Feel free to pass it along.

The analogy is absolutely right on . .

Maxine tells it like it is!!!!

I bought a bird feeder. I hung
it on my back porch and filled
it with seed. What a beauty of
a bird feeder it is, as I filled it
lovingly with seed. Within a
week we had hundreds of birds
taking advantage of the
continuous flow of free and
easily accessible food.

But then the birds started
building nests in the boards
of the patio, above the table,
and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was
everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table ....
everywhere!

Then some of the birds
turned mean. They would
dive bomb me and try to
peck me even though I had
fed them out of my own
pocket.

And others birds were
boisterous and loud. The
sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at
all hours of the day and night
and demanded that I fill it
when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even
sit on my own back porch
anymore. So I took down the
bird feeder and in three days
the birds were gone. I cleaned
up their mess and took down
the many nests they had built
all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like
it used to be...... quiet, serene
and no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.

Now let's see.
Our government gives out
free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care, and free
education and allows anyone
born here to be an automatic
citizen.

Then the illegals came by the
tens of thousands. Suddenly
our taxes went up to pay for
free services; small apartments
are housing 5 families; you
have to wait 6 hours to be seen
by an emergency room doctor;
your child's 2nd grade class is
behind other schools because
over half the class doesn't speak
English.

Corn Flakes now come in a
bilingual box; I have to
'press one' to hear my bank
talk to me in English, and
people waving flags other
than 'Old Glory' are
squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding
more rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe
it's time for the government
to take down the bird feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not,
continue cleaning up the poop!

McCain’s Illegal Immigration
Legislation May Hurt
White House Bid

Presumed Republican presidential candidate John McCain is taking some hits recently for legislation that would basically give 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. amnesty.

The controversial piece of legislation stalled last year and in addition to giving people who broke the law citizenship, it proposes to also tighten the very loose Mexican border and a guest-worker program.

McCain, who cosponsored this legislation with Sen. Ted Kennedy, has been heavily criticized by many and rightly so.

He is giving a free pass to people who broke international laws to come to this country. On top of it, many of these illegal aliens have robbed and murdered our own citizens. Why in the world would McCain want to give what amounts to amnesty to these types of criminals?

Furthermore, this will set a precedence to criminals who break laws. If we don’t punish illegal immigrants for their crimes, then what type of criminal won’t we punish next? Drug dealers who only push marijuana? Kidnappers who only hold their victims less than 24 hours? Murderers who only kill one person?

These examples may seem ridiculous, but let’s remember that 10 years ago many people and politicians would have laughed at the idea of giving illegal immigrants a reprieve for breaking the law.

And while the majority of illegal immigrants are Hispanic, there are many from different countries. While the U.S. is facing a global war on terror, one would think that McCain would be pushing for tougher legislation to combat these lawbreakers instead of giving them a free ride and hope that they’re not here to blow up some buildings.

Every day across this nation, thousands of people from different countries and cultures are working hard to actually become citizens of this great country of ours or to stay here legally. It would be a huge slap in the face to them and our forefathers who have worked so hard just to be here and carve a new life out for themselves.

McCain’s legislation is the tip of a very slippery slope for the American judicial system. It should make voters give a minute to pause and consider what type of man who wants to be president of the United States and to uphold her laws, but also wants to allow illegal aliens the right to break them.

Democrats Committing
Political Suicide

What a week it’s been for Democrats shooting themselves in the foot. First a presidential candidate said the Democrats can’t handle a terror attack as well as Republicans, then there is a New Jersey mayor who does not want his police to report illegal aliens charged with crimes to the Feds. And this is after an illegal immigrant is charged with murdering three college students!

Yesterday, Sen. Hillary Clinton told supporters during a presidential campaign stop in New Hampshire that if there was a terror attack between now and Election Day in 2008, the Republicans would win the White House.

She did add that she was the “Democratic candidate best equipped to deal with (a terror attack),” reported The New York Post.

Great job, Hillary. What a great way to remind independent and party voters that the Democrats have always been viewed as weak on terrorism. Not only did you hurt yourself but you just hurt your party’s senators and congressmen/women who are running for election.

It’s not surprising that the presidential candidates are back stabbing each other, but it is shocking when they start sabotaging the chances of their colleagues.

Clinton just showed how shallow of a person she is by caring more about her chances of winning the election than people’s lives if there was a terrorism attack.

And that’s three strikes against her, and that was only in one speech!

And then we have Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker and his deep commitment to illegal immigrant but not for the citizens of his city.

As many will know, Newark made national headlines earlier this month when three college students were murdered in execution-style shootings, with one was injured. One of the murder suspects, Jose Carranza, is an illegal immigrant.

Federal authorities were never informed that Carranza, from Peru, was charged with child rape and aggravated assault before he was arrested for the murders.

That is why Republican Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo said earlier this week that the murder victims’ families should sue Newark because the city does not demand that police officers check the legal immigration status of criminal suspects. And the Democratic mayor of the city had this to say.

“Local law-enforcement officials should not be going out asking, inquiring and investigating whether people are documented or undocumented,” Booker said in an Associated Press interview.

So, Booker does not want police officers to do their jobs, which is to serve and protect the people of Newark? If Newark police told federal authorities that Carranza was charged for child rape and assault, then he might have been deported or at the very least, locked up and not made bail like he did.

But no, Booker is playing politics with illegal immigrants and it might have cost the lives of three college students. How he can sleep at night is amazing. It would be even more amazing if he has a political career after all of this.

Because essentially he just said he does not care about legal Newark citizens by not requiring police to investigate a suspect if he or she is an illegal alien, thus placing many innocent lives in danger. That’s more than shallow, that’s downright wicked and immoral.

Democrats don’t have to worry about losing to Republicans in 2008; they’re doing a good job of defeating themselves!

Suspected Newark Killer Is An Illegal Immigrant

Is New Haven, the Connecticut town that gave illegal immigrants ID cards, having second thoughts after it was discovered that the man charged with the execution-style shootings of three college students is an illegal alien himself?

The murders of Newark, N.J., residents Terrance Aeriel, 18; Dashon Harvey, 20; and Iofemi Hightower, 20, and the attempted murder of 19-year-old Natasha Aeriel have shocked the nation.

What also came as a shock today was that one of the suspects, 28-year-old Jose Carranza, is an illegal immigrant from Peru, although CNN has decided to label him as “undocumented.” FOX News, on the other hand, called him “illegal.”

FOX News reported that Carranza had a fake Social Security number during his recent arrest and had previously been “arrested on charges of raping a 5-year-old girl and then threatening the child and parents.”

CNN reported the same as far as the charge of having a fake Social Security number but also reported that Carranza is accused in another case of raping and threatening to kill a 13-year-old, a girlfriend's child. At this time, it is not known if the two alleged victims are actually the same person but the age is wrong or if it’s two different people.

In addition to murder, both networks have reported that Carranza is charged with robbery, along with other criminal offenses connected to the Newark murders. CNN did report that police are also investigating if the murders are gang-related.

So, Carranza, whose fingerprints were found at the scene of the crime, is an illegal immigrant. And it isn’t the first time that an illegal immigrant has been charged with murder or rape. Are all illegal aliens killers and rapists? Of course not.

But as a nation, we have to take a united stance against people who illegally come into this country. Giving them ID cards or driver licenses or other services is not the answer. Some of them are vicious killers that need to go back to their own country before they can prey on any more Americans.

If local, state and federal branches of the government actually got serious about illegal immigrants, instead of treating them like lost, rain-drenched kittens, then those three young people would be alive today.

Immigration Bill Denied Boarder Access

The Senate voted down the highly controversial immigration reform bill that would have legalized nearly 12 million illegal aliens.

Notice the “illegal aliens” part. That’s what they are because they broke the law when entering this country illegally. The term “guest worker” means they were invited but that is not true. They’re more like gatecrashers.

The whole illegal immigration issue is where I strongly disagree with President Bush. Granted, he gets points for wanting more funding to secure our boarders and have agents protecting it.

However, legalizing nearly 12 million illegal aliens is where I draw the line with the president. I don’t care what country a person is from, if he or she enters this one illegally, then that person should be shown the door. And let’s go into the problems that some of these people cause.

Many illegal aliens damage private residents’, business’, and government properly, are involved with smuggling operations and create even more crime, according to a report to the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations.

Another problem caused by illegal aliens is the free services that are being offered. Granted, it would be inhuman not to provide healthcare to those in need but where is that money coming from? Taxpayers, which is unfair. That means that some law bidding family who are barely scraping by as it is has their tax dollars go to free healthcare for someone who sneaked into this country.

Illegal aliens should be made to pay for healthcare, even if it means that the government will take out very little from their paychecks until the debt is paid.

Now I can’t imagine the hardship it is trying to leave your native country in the hopes of finding a better life in America. Although, I have seen it first hand.

My wife is from Japan and I have seen her work hard to gain access and stay in this country legally. I have helped her with paperwork and accompanying her to the immigration office, where on any given day hundreds from all nationalities wait in line to stay or work in this country.

The whole illegal alien problem could have been easily dealt with a couple months ago. Law enforcement officials had a grand opportunity to take care of it when illegal aliens were holding marches and rallies across the nation. The police should have had a mass crackdown and arrested and deported them. Why that didn’t happen, I don’t know but the usual suspect was probably politics.

Yes, I know many actually risk their lives coming to this country but there must be a better way of dealing with it. I also realize that the majority of illegal immigrants are from Mexico. I believe that an improved program with the country could better serve the two nations, since the current system is not working well if people are risking their lives to cross the boarder.

But giving a form of amnesty to all types of illegal aliens would not only be a slap in the face to hard-working, honest people like my wife but to our own forefathers as well.

What The U.S.-Mexico Fence Means To Us, Others

By now, most people will know that President Bush signed a bill, authorizing 700 miles of new fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigrants and possible terrorists from entering the country.

According to the Associated Press, no money has been allocated for the fence, which is only going to cover 700 miles of the 2,100-mile border. However, there is a $1.2 billion
down payment.

The question that needs to be asked is this: Is this worthwhile? It certainly is not a cure all by any stretch of the imagination and it would be foolish to think so. Yet, it cannot hurt and it is a good preventative measure, if done right. And that also means having enough money for surveillance equipment and guards to patrol this divider. This will cost a pretty penny indeed but something that will help. After all, it's not like our Mexican neighbor wants to help out.

While the whole issue is causing debate, outgoing Mexican President Vicente Fox is upset over this. He has wanted a new guest worker program (and that topic is for another blog, for another day) and he also wanted millions of Mexicans who are working illegally in America to be given citizenship. (It's safe to assume these people are in the country illegally as well.) And what does he say about the whole affair of this new barrier? "Shameful," according tot he Associated Press.

What's shameful is that he's passing off his own unwanted citizens and making them someone else's problem, while not doing enough to stop the corruption in his own country and fixing a severely broken Mexican economy, two main reasons why his people are leaving in droves.

America is a country that welcomes all nationalities with open arms but by no means should we turn a blind eye to those, no matter where they hail from, who come here illegally. There are thousands who go to the Bureau of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to become citizens legally and it would be a crime to make their trials all in vain by giving a free pass to illegal aliens.
